It is often said that truth is stranger than fiction, and this is certainly the case when it comes to the American Revolution. In this class, students will learn about the fascinating and often overlooked details and people that were influential in the making of the United States. Starting with the Boston Massacre and continuing on to the adopting of the U.S. Constitution, each week will include a handout designed for note taking in whichever format each particular class requires (timeline, Venn diagram, etc.) These worksheets will be graded and returned with feedback. Additionally students will complete a writing assignment outside of class on a figure from the time period which will be due at the conclusion of the course. This class will explore the many different people and viewpoints involved in the fight for independence as well as those influential in designing the structure that the new government would assume. The people studied will range from founding fathers to Revolutionary spies. Students will learn about the role that enslaved African American's had on the the Revolution as well from saving the Continental Army from Small Pox to acquiring essential information for the victory at Yorktown. It is my goal to inspire students to get excited about learning more about this fascinating time period.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education Interdisciplinary Studies with a declared minor in Psychology. My degree training included preparation for all core subjects for this age group. Additionally, I have also completed multiple courses on American history and Western Civilization as part of my training. My studies for my declared minor in Psychology included courses on developmental psychology which is essential to the way in which sensitive topics will be addressed in this course. As a teacher, I have taught over 200 online classes, including a variety of U.S. history courses in which the American Revolution is the focal point. These classes have covered social injustices and war. My focus on psychology and experience teaching U.S. history plays an essential role in how this information is presented to ensure accuracy and age appropriateness. The lessons planned for this course are also part of an ongoing history class that I have taught through this platform over recent months.
