In this one-time class we will be using the Unreal Engine, the game engine Fortnite uses. We will start with the basics, using an existing Unreal Engine project and work our way to more advanced concepts. At the conclusion of the class you will have a playable game that you have created! The Unreal Engine and its versions are free to download. 

Learn how to make a simple playable game, potentially including:

- Learn variables like Booleans, floats, integers, and for each loops.
- Character movement
- Implementing a health bar
- Interacting with items
- Creating enemies.

Learners are welcomed to ask questions, brainstorm ideas, and add to the discussion. No prior experience with Unreal Engine or coding is necessary.

Hi parents and learners, my name is Ben. I will be using the Unreal Engine. The Unreal Engine is the game engine that the creators of Fortnite use to create their games. 

Growing up, I had a passion for art and video games which led me to pursue it as a career in college where I earned a Bachelors in Media Arts and Animation. I recently became certified as a Full Stack Engineer, meaning, I can create websites, and have also taught myself the Unreal Engine. 

In my classes, I will be teaching a beginner level course working with the Unreal Engine using Blueprints, which are a visual representation of code.

One of the things I care about in my class setting is a sense of belonging. I was bullied growing up, which has caused me to want to make sure everyone feels accepted, is treated fairly, and is having a great time. In addition, asking questions is key to learning, so ask away!

I have created a few video games, for fun, using the Unreal Engine, adding my own art and ideas and also enjoy playing video games and sports competitively.
