As an educator, I've had parents ask me, "What's the deal with number bonds, anyway?" Well, Here's the deal :).
It can be a big jump for young learners to go from counting objects to writing an equation. Number bonds help bridge that gap between the concrete items and the abstract equation, build strong number sense in students, and are lots of fun when they are used with hands-on materials!
Number bonds are also great visual representation of how whole numbers can be broken down into parts and put back together, and can be used for both addition and subtraction. In this 2-day math camp, we will focus on addition on day 1 and subtraction on day 2. This class is an introduction to number bonds or a review for anyone who has worked with them but could use some reinforcement.

***Please be sure learners have 10 small counting objects, and have either printed the worksheets or have paper and pencil to draw their own number bonds. Also posted in the classroom is an optional printable unicorn headband craft to make at home!

**To start class, we will have a quick social time to get to know one another, and go over classroom expectations.
*Next, we will talk about some things needed for the "Unicorn Party" and learn a song that helps us understand what a number bond represents.
**Then, we will use our hands-on material in a guided math activity to get the Unicorns and party favors to the party!
**As this activity progresses, we will have guided practice building math equations (number sentences) using our number bonds. Learners will get to practice independently as well. We will also learn some fun facts about unicorns and have short movement breaks to dance with the Unicorns and celebrate our success!
**Lastly, we will have a quick self- reflection time, in which students can think about what they learned today.
I hope to see you soon in this magical math camp!
