Students with established knowledge and experience with playing the ukulele will learn how to play more advanced chords, mixed or complex strumming techniques, explore the musical world of fingerpicking, and practice playing as a group member while learning popular songs on the ukulele instrument. In this multi-day class, we will begin by reviewing the basic chord fingerings, strumming patterns, and how to read chord notations. Then we will move on to learning advanced chords (example: Bm7, C#m, Eb, etc.) which will build in difficulty and intensity as we progress our learning during the entire course. Students will be taught how to strum in different rhythms to match each song tempo (example: DDU-UDU), increasing in complexity and combination difficulty with each lesson. Students will also be introduced to reading the different notations for fingerpicking, as well as gain knowledge in reading and performing this style of ukulele music in a group setting. We will be playing popular, modern (but clean and PG) songs from the very first lesson; and although I have many music selections in my repertoire, I encourage students to request any song that they want to learn or love to listen to. It is my goal to make the learning process fun, and encourage students to sing and participate by allowing each member to take turns strumming/playing their instrument at appropriate times during the lesson. Music is supposed to be enjoyable, and learning is easier when students are having a blast. Be sure to send me a message with any artist/song that the student likes and I will do everything I can to include something from it in the lesson content during our course. Please be advised that I do NOT have any certifications or qualifications for teaching this class as a special education course for students with learning disabilities. Therefore I suggest that if your student has been diagnosed with a learning disability, that you look for and attain the services of a qualified music teacher in order to provide your student with the best educational opportunity. Thank you for understanding. Please refer to the weekly course breakdown schedule below, although the teacher reserves the right to change the topics/difficulty as necessary to fit the students' needs during the course. I look forward to singing and sharing some tunes with you soon! Week 1: Review of General Knowledge and Basic Concepts Week 2: Learn and Perform New Chords and Strumming Techniques Week 3: Introduction to Fingerpicking Notation and Performance Week 4: Mixed Method Music (chords and fingerpicking in the same song) Week 5: Group Work Practice and Performance

If you do not have a physical/digital tuner device for your instrument, a ukulele tuner app is highly beneficial (and free). I use one simply called "ukulele tuner" from the Apple store; it has a mint green background and over-sized white letters that spell "uku-lele". They can also purchase a small, clip-on tuner from Amazon or their local music store/department.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have experience teaching students ranging from grade school ages into adulthood, tutoring 1-on-1, and teaching large groups. I was a language and art/music teacher in Europe for about a year, while traveling around Europe and the UK, where students came to learn English and study various topics through theatre and play activities. In the past, I've also taught kindergarten through 5th grade students in a US public school, and I taught ESL online for nearly 3 years as a certified teacher.
I graduated in 2017 from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. I am currently studying front-end web design while working as a private tutor and website creator. In my free time, I enjoy playing music on my ukulele, travel photography, and baking. I have a passion for all forms of art and the creative process that comes with it.
Whatever my current situation may be, I feel motivated to empower young students to realize their academic and creative potential through meaningful play and personal mentorship. I am looking forward to creating fun and productive courses through Outschool and I look forward to seeing you in my classroom soon!
