Finish your drawings and explore nature to find more examples of Fibonacci's sequence.Experiencia de clase

Grado de EE. UU. 3 - 6
Looking for a new twist to your learner's math curriculum? Math is all around us and we often don't even know we're looking at it. In Twisted Figures: Using Fibonacci's Sequence to Draw Trees, learners will explore one mathematical phenomenon that can be seen in nature: the Fibonacci Sequence. I will teach about the first several numbers in Fibonacci's sequence and show learners how to take that information and use it to create trees, leaves, and other natural phenomenon that follow the same growing pattern. Learners will participate in the following activities: ~ Listen to me explain Fibonacci's sequence ~ Watch a brief slideshow to see examples of the sequence ~ Draw a tree that follows the Fibonacci growing pattern ~ Examine art and nature that follows Fibonacci's sequence By the end of class students will have created a wonderful tree and will be more aware of Fibonacci's sequence when examining nature. This class is more about recognizing the pattern than completing calculations, so if there are learners who are interested in Fibonacci but want a break from regular math operations then this class would be perfect!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will know what Fibonacci's sequence is and learn how it can be recognized in art and nature.

Lista de útiles escolares
I will provide a paper to print out before class. In addition to this, learners should have blank paper, pencils, and something to color with (either 7 or 21 colors are preferred but not required).
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Licenciatura en Educación desde St. Cloud State University
I specialize in finding fun twists to standard curriculum to help my students build critical thinking skills as well as mathematical skills. By adding a new twist to a familiar topic we can expand our thinking to include new possibilities. I love finding fun applications for math in the real world. Fibonacci's sequence gives us clues about the universe while also looking beautiful. I want my students to see the beauty in numbers as well as nature.
