Come and take a four lesson vacation around Southeast Asia. Backpacking around the diverse landscapes of Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia, learners will discover the culture, histories, and landmarks that compose these destinations. During this four country exploration, students will learn introductory phrases in different languages (hello, thank you, your welcome, and more), receive take-home recipes for popular dishes, observe animals and natural wonders, and engage in mini-history and culture lessons. Additionally, students will acquire real world travel skills through asking questions on a tour, by creating an "Instagram post," and leaving a "Trip Advisor Review." Journey Across Southeast Asia Itinerary: Destination #1: Vietnam --> Our tour begins in Ho Chi Minh city where students will visit the War Remnants Museum. --> Afterwards, we'll travel along the Hai Van Pass stopping off in Hoi An to design and get custom clothes, Da Nang to visit the famous dragon bridge, and Hue where we'll take a tour of the Imperial City. --> Next, we head to the capital city, Hanoi, where we'll see a water puppet show. --> The last stop on our Vietnam Adventure is HaLong Bay. Here students will go on a boat tour and learn the legend behind the natural wonder's emerald green waters. Destination #2: Thailand --> We begin in Bangkok where we learn about Thai Culture and visit the Royal Palace. --> Next we're off to Ayutthaya where we will learn about the ancient history and visit the old capital's ruins. --> We head north to Chiang Mai to visit an Elephant Sanctuary and Wat Phra That Doi Suthep before going to Chiang Rai to visit The White Temple. --> We conclude our Thai journey at Ang Thong Marine Park in the Gulf of Thailand. Destination #3: Cambodia --> Starting in Siem Reap, we visit the famous Angkor Wat Temple for sunrise. --> Next off, we head to Phnom Penh. Here, students will visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum where they will learn about the country's painful past and be inspired by its resilience. In the city's capital we will also go shopping in a local street food market and learn how to barter. --> The tour concludes in Kampot, where we check out a pepper field and Bokor National Park. Destination #4: Indonesia --> The tour begins in Bali! Here, we visit the famous Tanah Lot Temple, visit the Sacred Monkey Forest, and take a hike up the active volcano, Mount Batur. --> Next off we'll head to the Gili Islands where we'll go snorkeling and "take photos" with the Gili Meno Statues. --> The last stop is Komodo Island. Going on a nature hike, we will look for and explore the Komodo Dragon. Learning methods used during this course include games, digital tours, composition of written materials ("Instagram posts" and "Trip Advisor" reviews), class discussion, and more. No lesson will include more than 9 minutes of video (we will never watch more than four minutes of video at a time without breaking for an activity). Please be noted some video content is acquired from Youtube and all content is age appropriate.
