To Kill a Mockingbird (ages 13-18) As students read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, they will learn about the characters, plot, and themes of the book as well as the important time period of the the Great Depression and the Jim Crow era . Racial discrimination and sensitive topics will be addressed through discussion and questions. We will also be playing games along the way while learning about this classic novel! This is a fun book club! Week 1- I will be showing a powerpoint...
- Learners will learn about themes, characterization, foreshadowing, and plot. They will also have an understanding of the historical importance of the Great Depression and the Jim Crow era. Learners will also learn about the author and the correlation of her life and the novel. The sensitive topic of racial discrimination will be discussed to help learners understand the importance of equality among humans. I will also be teaching the biographical information of the author Harper Lee at the beginning of the class to allow the learners to understand who wrote the book to gain a better connection.
I have over 10 years experience teaching literature in a traditional classroom as well as virtually. I have taught this novel to hundreds of learners throughout the years. This includes both secondary education and college level. I hold a degree in education with a focus in English. Through my experience in teaching to different age groups and learning capacities, I am able to cover many areas of learning through this novel.

Frecuencia: incluidoDetalles: Each learner progress is assessed through individual work. Everyone learns differently and at a different pace. We will be holding discussions and writing summaries of the novel.
Each learner will need a copy of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. There are also audio versions available as well as the movie. I will provide a link to obtain the audio version and the movie once enrolled.

Racial differences, some offensive or vulgar language(the "n" words nigger and negro) are used throughout the book to depict the way in which certain people spoke in the Great Depression and Jim Crow era. There is a character in the book that has been charged with an alleged rape.
