Gaia's Revenge will enlighten learners as to how the Olympians defended the heavens from the manifestation of Gaia's wrath; Typhon. We will then learn of the many wives of Zeus that came before Hera and the children that were produced. This class closely follows Hesiod's Theogony, interpreting it line by line, deconstructing the gods he lists and their domains, specifically lines 820-956. We will take a small aside with Apollodorus [1.6.3] to get a more insight into the fight amongst the heavens. The last hundred lines that close out Hesiod's Theogony is simply a farewell to the Muses and will be briefly mentioned, but this concludes the exploration of the Theogony. Class will first begin with a short meet-and-greet. Once acquainted, we will delve into a dramatic telling of Hesiod's Theogony with a little bit of information from Apollodorus sprinkled in. The story will be brought to life through imagery, and as a story teller, my goal will be to use my theatrical and voice-artist background to make the tale memorable. Throughout, students will be encouraged to ask questions and will also be posed questions to test their listening and comprehension skills. Specifically, we will learn about the creation of Typhon, how Zeus was defeated by Typhon and then how he was saved, the origin of the winds, the birth of Athena, the children of Zeus and Themis, children of Zeus and Eurynome, of Zeus and Demeter, of Zeus and Mnemosyne, of Zeus and Leto, of Zeus and Hera, of Zeus and Tethys, of Poseidon and Amphitrite, of Atlas and Pleione, of Zeus and Maia, of Harmonia and Cadmus, of Zeus and Semele, of Zeus and Alcmene, of Perseis and Helios, and of Idyia and Aeetes.
