This course is designed to introduce young learners to the NCSS C3 State Standards for Social Studies through interactive and hands-on lessons, sparking their curiosity about Geography and the world around them. Geography isn't just about where a person lives; it's about understanding how and why they live there and exploring their unique cultures. In this engaging class, students will: 🌏 Use Google Earth to virtually explore homes of different cultures worldwide. 🗺️ Discover various types of maps and understand their specific purposes. 🏔️ Explore the landforms and bodies of water that make up our world. 🏞️ Learn about the migration of people and goods by investigating historical sites like Ellis Island and the Erie Canal. Our activities are crafted to be fun and educational, ensuring that students actively participate and develop a deeper appreciation for human and physical geography. This introductory course can be taken alone or as a precursor to more in-depth studies in our unit-specific geography courses. Join us on this adventure and ignite your excitement for the diverse world we live in!

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
We believe that students learn through personal action. Though we frequently use standards to guide instruction, we work to make our classrooms student-centered. Our classes often feature games and investigative activities.
Students of all backgrounds and learning abilities are welcome in our classrooms. If there is an accommodation you'd like us to make for your child, please reach out. Our classrooms are safe spaces.
INFORMATION:
We'd be happy to set up a private section for homeschool pods or groups of students wanting to create a consistent experience together. Just shoot us a message and we will work something out!
