If you have read the first Wingfeather Book: On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness it is time to read North! Or Be Eaten. This 4 week class meets twice a week to discuss this exciting book. Along with discussing the book, we will be making a timeline of events and learning reading strategies like visualizing the text, making connections, learning how to use context cues, predicting, making inferences and summarizing. You will need to read 8 chapters before class to be ready for the class discussion. During class we will talk about what we read, review vocabulary, have a lesson about a reading strategy and fill in our notebook. The notebook will be a combination of vocabulary, creative writing, and drawing. Class 1: Chapters 1-8 Group discussion and Vocabulary Review Visualizing the text Set up notebook Class 2: Chapters 9-16 Group discussion and Vocabulary Review Making Connections Class 3: Chapters 17-24 Group discussion and Vocabulary Review Using Context Clues Class 4: Chapters 25-32 Group discussion and Vocabulary Review Making Predictions Class 5: Chapters 33-40 Group discussion and Vocabulary Review Summarizing Class 6: Chapters 41-48 Group discussion and Vocabulary Review Making Inferences Class 7: Chapters 49-56 Group discussion and Vocabulary Review Determining Importance of Events Class 8: Chapters 45-51 Group discussion and Vocabulary Review Asking Questions Final project options: -Design a Movie Poster for the movie -Create a top 10 soundtrack: Out of all of the events on the timeline we created in class, which events do you think are the most important, choose a song as the soundtrack for each event. -Write an interview with one of the characters Each learner will need their own copy of the Wingfeather Saga: North! Or Be Eaten and a binder with the class printouts. Printouts will be provided in the classroom the Sunday before class begins.

The Wingfeather Saga is a series of fantasy/adventure novels. The story includes fighting and some characters die. We may use scissors to create some of our interactive notebook pages.
