The learning goals are for students to end the class with an understanding that the U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the United States. It establishes the basic structure of our government, defines the government’s powers, and protects the rights of all Americans. The Constitution was designed so that the power of government would be divided among the branches, so that those branches could “check” each other, and so that the power of the individual states would be protected. The Constitution was also designed so that it could adapt to the times and be a “living” document.
