The origins of Halloween is a medium-sized class, intended for children 11-15 years old who are interested in learning more about the true origins of Halloween.

Halloween is an American holiday that has gained following all over the world. We began seeing an increase in celebrating the holiday in the early 20th century.
But, where did the holiday begin, and why?

We will explore the ancient origins of this American tradition.

Students will discover what the symbolism of Halloween means.
By exploring ancient Pegan, Druid and Celtic history, they will discover the origins of the holiday.

Then on to the Roman adaption of the holiday, European adaption, and finally the American version that is still celebrated today with trick-or-treating and festivals.

Students will also discover ancient geological locations where the holiday originated in Europe and see how the holiday moved across the country and made it to America via the colonizers.

Finally, we come to modern times and contrast how this ancient holiday changed and stayed the same over the centuries.

Students will learn multiple cultural perspectives on holiday; in a comfortable classroom setting.

I use various media and technology to bring the materials in class to life. This class is very interactive, and students are encouraged to speak and discuss topics throughout the course. Class time will involve lecture time, slides, video clips, and on-going discussion throughout the class. This class is a 50-minute discussion.

My teaching style is upbeat, friendly, and honest. I encourage critical thinking and expression. I deliver my lessons in a real-world, unbiased manner that encouraged kindness, tolerance and, stewardship of the earth, its people, and animals. No prior knowledge is needed.

Class style: This class is lecture style and content heavy. This means that your child is not required to ask questions ( but can at anytime), read passages, or even have their camera on( Except for the initial verification). I do not coerce participation; they can choose to participate as much or as little as they desire. If you are looking for a class with tons of games and group activities, this isn't the class for you.
I look forward to meeting your student in class ~ Teacher Phyllis

The history of Halloween is as old as some ancient European cultures. We can trace Halloween or the original holiday Samhain as far as the Celts and Druid cultures. This holiday helped them stay in tune and touch with their ancestors while at the same time also helped them plan for harvest and winter preparedness. This holiday served a practical purpose and over the centuries it has changed. The witch trials of early European and American history constitute a formative event in our civil society’s evolution. They expressed a theocratic mindset supported by civil power over life and death. The significance of this information serves as an object lesson in governance and the world today.
As a person who has been researching this topic for over twenty years, I use a wide range of verified sources and different types of sources. I make a point to select my resources deliberately and with the age group and verified data in mind. I have made a practice of collecting, recording, and verifying years of data on the subject of the witch-trails, ancient traditions and teachings, and ancient history and cultural beliefs.
I can make connections between various sources of data, processing it into understandable and relatable information. The information taught in my classes is verifiable and based on actual historical records.
This class will get the students thinking and generating new questions to ask about our collective pasts. Without knowledge of our past, we undoubtedly place ourselves on a path to repeat those mistakes. I feel confident that I can teach your students objective and unbiased history based on pure historical facts. I have a master's degree in Healthcare Administration, and I am well versed in research and finding definitive information with a minor in cultural anthropology. I do charge a bit more for this class as it is a specialty subject that speaks to ancient and current religions, however, this is NOT a religious class. Thank you
