Join this class: - to marvel at microscopic captures of snowflakes - to learn how snow is formed - to play winter-themed learning games to build math concepts like - shape recognition - symmetry - patterns - interact with the class creatively by - creating patterns - solving puzzles - drawing snowflakes Students will need a pen/pencil and paper. My teaching style is carefree, enthusiastic and creative. I incorporate cross-curricular activities when possible. This class has built-in science, mathematics and art elements. If we have time at the end of class I will share a classic winter poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. I encourage students to answer questions and interact freely using either their audio/video stream or the class chat. This class was made to engage your child in continual learning by getting them to marvel excitedly and look critically at the world around them.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn the terms:
- fractal,
- reflectional/mirror symmetry,
- rotational symmetry,
- translational symmetry,
- scale symmetry,
Students will create or complete problems with:
-comparison
-patterns
It is my goal to engage students with unique activities and creative fun, to build a positive perception of learning.
Otros detalles
Requisitos previos
This class emphasizes patterns and symmetry and it is made for learners that are familiar with these terms as well beginning learners.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students need to bring a pen/pencil and paper to class. They may bring a ruler for precision lines, it is not required.
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Fuentes
I will use photo images of the snowflake from W.A. Bentley that are freely available on the internet. I will use general knowledge about snowflakes garnered from my research in science books and in articles from the magazine Discovery. I will use two graphics from learning webpages and I will cite them in my presentation. I may incorporate one or more classic poems that are a part of the public domain (by Longfellow and Robert Frost).
