In this six week flex class, students will learn about the Periodic Table, its history, and how it is used in science today. Students will learn about the different groups of the table, along with the differences in classifications, including which elements are metals, noble gases, and which are solid at room temperature versus liquid or gas. Students will also learn which What is the periodic table, what's in a box and classifications. Each week's topic will include the following: Week 1: What is the Periodic Table and who founded it? What is the organization and what is in the box? Week 2: What are the main groups and how are they classified? Brief overview Week 3: What are the elements of the period table?(Alkaline Earth and Alkali) Week 4: What are the elements of the period table?(Lanthanides and Actinide Series) Week 5: What are the elements of the period table? (Transition Metals, Boron, and Carbon) Week 6: What are the elements of the period table? (Non-metals: Pnictogens, Chalcogens, Halogens, and Noble Gases) Each week's structure will be as follows: Video: Students will receive a video each week to explain the topic of the week, along with a notetaker and a periodic table to follow and color in each week (students will use this each week as each group is learned) Activity: Students will be given a weekly activity that will range from matching to reading about the topic of the week (this will include reading passages from SuperScience, handouts, jamboards, and google docs for digital ease of access). Posts: Daily discussion board posts will be made each week with questions for engagement. Students will answer the questions in the classroom In this class, students will also be given the opportunity to complete a project and a final assessment for mastery. Assessment: Students will receive an assessment at the end of the class for mastery. Students will receive videos from Youtube, which can be viewed directly in the classroom for ease of access. Students will receive a template for their favorite element from Google Slides, but no subscription is required. Students will complete an assessment on Google Forms at the end of the course to determine Mastery.
We will use SuperScience, when applicable, for readings to support the topic of the week with a resource to complete with each article used. No subscription is necessary and a password will be provided for students to be able to access articles.

Students will receive a weekly note taker to record notes for their knowledge, as well as a periodic table to fill in each week as we progress through the period table. In addition, students will receive resources for activities that can be completed by printing out, or by completing digitally.

We will refer to the Periodic Table of Elements in this class, with a printout for coloring as we go through each group each week. Students will be able to color the group in, as well as will be provided a notetaker to fill in regarding the elements each week. Activities will be able to be printed or submitted online through Google Docs (by copying and pasting the code in the learner's conversation tab.
