Each week we will have a formal discussion structured around the current book we are reading from our list. Questions will be open ended to encourage students to form their own taste and opinions about the books we read. We will discuss plot, tone, foreshadowing, author style, language, literary devices, and characters. I will encourage students to share beyond likes and dislikes, and ask questions crafted to make them think. Every month the book we read will be broken down by chapters so we're all on the same page for our discussion. Students will also be encouraged to share their feelings, predictions, and emotions surrounding the chapters they have read. It looks like this: JUNE- Weeks 1-4: Holes by Louis Sachar JULY- Weeks 5-8: The Giver by Lois Lowry AUGUST- Weeks 9-12: Wonder by R.J Palacio SEPTEMBER- Weeks 13-16 Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Patterson OCTOBER- Weeks 17-20 The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo NOVEMBER- Weeks 21-24 Matilda by Roald Dahl Students who join in the middle of a course are welcomed, they can easily continue into the next section to make up a book they missed. Also, students are welcome to join during a particular month, if they prefer only to participate for a certain book. All students will have access to our reading guide and discussion questions. *Siblings are welcome! I offer 50% off for every sibling that joins. *If you don't see a time slot that works or you, please reach out.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students need to be able to read each book, independently or with their family in order to keep up with our club. Books vary from 4th - 8th grade reading levels, so younger kids who join should be advanced readers.
