Florence Nightingale is considered the first nurse. Prior to this there were" helpers" in the hospital...often dirty facilities with men and women made an attempted to make patients more comfortable. Florence Nightingale had a different vision. She wanted to bring education to these helpers who would then become the first nurses. We will learn about Florence as a young woman, a volunteer during the Crimean War, and the steps she took to create the first nursing school. I like my classes to be relaxed and leave plenty of time for discussion and questions. You do not need any previous experience to enjoy this class

If you plan on choosing a profession in nursing this is a great place to start. Florence Nightingale was a pioneer in the nursing field. We still take her pledge at graduation. You will find that she is not a demure shrinking violet but a woman who was ahead of her times and willing to fight for change.
