An ongoing civics class that focuses on The U.S. Constitution that gives Learners a chance to learn about the purpose and significance of our founding document in their lives that is dynamic, energetic and relevant ? Challenge accepted! What do we do? Each week stands on it own- a lesson about a particular aspect of the of Constitution. However- we only move forward so Learners that want to return every week can do that- the class does not repeat. **Full Disclosure- I am a total history and politics nerd and I am way too excited about The Constitution. Wayyy to excited! I enjoy looking at this document and the ideas, realities and history it engenders as well as the role of The Constitution on U.S. popular culture and the world. So...expect this ongoing class to be a bit of an adventure. EACH CLASS STANDS ON ITS OWN as I design this class to work well for Learners that only attend once AND for Learners who return week after week. So our classes bounce around a bit- with topic focuses that follow the schedule below (but is subject to change based on learner interest): These classes are designed to stand alone AND to work together. They do not actually repeat, but they do follow this framework as we work our way through topics of interest to the learners, the document and the effect of the laws in society. First Week*- The Big picture- and overview of the Constitution and how it effects the world. Second week- Close Reading- we take a careful look at a very small part of the document. Third Week- The Articles- We consider one of the articles. Fourth Week- Amendment Study- A focus at one Amendment. Fifth Week- Historical Perspective- "Who Wrote This?" *For scheduling, I use the Sunday of each week- so, for example, Jan 2-8 is the first week of January while January 30- Feb 4 is the fifth week. Questions about the schedule- please send me a message!

Licenciatura en Historia desde Hampton University
I HAD to study history at Hampton University (B.A) and U.S. History at Southern Methodist University (M.A. abt) because I found the complex topics and dynamic issues endlessly fascinating. My education allowed me to study questions of civics and government extensively, topics that should ALWAYS figure prominently when understanding The United States. Teaching high school and college history felt more like a prize than a job as I loved sharing our nation's struggles and stories with young learners and challenging them to think critically. I have decades of experience educating young people and adults issues surrounding civic engagement. While I am no longer in the classroom I still find opportunities to guide people through the topics and timelines of America from time to time, and this is one of those times. Teaching this topic to young people gives me hope and brings me so much happiness- our children are amazing!
