"That's not fair!" We have all heard it. When something isn't the same or equal, children are quick to point it out. But did you know equal and fair don't mean the same thing? In this class, we will use age-appropriate illustrations to discuss the words: needs, wants, fair, and equal. Learners will better understand why different people will sometimes need more or less than them and that a world that is fair is far better than everyone having the same. Some examples used: Would it be "fair" if everyone had to eat the same types of food or amount of food for dinner? (understanding different bodies need more, less or different for a variety of reasons) Would it be fair if everyone at the soccer game had one box to stand on so they can see? (understanding how people of different sizes and abilities need different things or support) Why does baby brother get to ride in the stroller and I don't? (understanding that getting what you want is different from what you need) An important class for young learners to begin to understand the importance of equity in a diverse world. **All of my classes are created to engage learners and give them many opportunities to share and think. A great class for shy learners. Class Format: Ice Breaker: We get silly with "Would You Rather" Lesson: Understanding Fair vs. Equal Practice: Is this fair? Goodbyes
