There are many parts to a story. This eight week course will use the question family (who, why, what, where, when and how) to illustrate the elements from stories. One member of the question family will define and explain themes, plots, settings, characters, main ideas as well as the author's point of view. We will discuss a story elements, read a story or article and create a story map to help learners reading comprehension and writing skills. R2D2 (read, reflect, display and do) will assist with writing book reports while encouraging lifelong reading and writing skills. Our weekly topic will be: Week Question Family Member Story Element Week One How Author's Point of View Author's Purpose Week Two Why Topic/Theme/Plot Week Three What Main Idea/Supporting Details Week Four Who Types of Characters Character Traits and Actions Week Five Where Setting - Place Week Six When Time Era Week Seven Review Book Report Outline Week Eight Student's Presentation Students will also receive a workbook to use throughout the course.
