I am a UK teacher who loves to share the rich heritage of the British Isles. This is a one-time class to complement my ongoing class Tales of the British Isles. This class tells the story of Gwenllian, a Celtic princess who lived in the 1200s. She fought courageously against the Norman invaders who were attacking from England, eventually leading an army into battle. Even after her death, her name was used as a rallying cry by the Welsh armies. I will introduce the subject, using a time line to show when the story took place, and I will give some context, explaining what life was like in those days. Students are very welcome to contribute and ask questions (it is all right if a student only wants to listen). I use slides, pictures and photos to illustrate the characters, landscape and features of the story. Perhaps some of the leaners have Welsh connections they would like to share too. At the end of the class I will encourage each student to share what they have found most interesting or memorable (once again, it is ok if a student does not want to contribute), and to The class is friendly and relaxed - students are welcome to contribute as we go along - I encourage interaction.
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will know about this part of Welsh history in general and the story of Gwenllian in particular.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have always been fascinated by the tales of old Britain, starting as a child when I read books on dragon and sea monster myths. I studied the tropes of these myths and legends at university as part of my English Literature degree, and still enjoy reading books like The Mabinogion (old Welsh stories), The Orkneyinga Saga (stories from one of my favourite places, Orkney) and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (with links to the Arthurian legends). I find them compelling and exciting, and I love to pass them on to others.
I aim to make the class relaxed and enjoyable, and to pass on my own enthusiasm for the subject!
