Classroom Structure
Learners will be muted when they log in. The "Chat" will be available between the learners and the host only (no emojis allowed). On some occasions such as during read-aloud, the "Chat" feature will not be available.
1. Learners are expected to maintain proper classroom behavior. Learners who continue to disrupt the learning process will have
the video turned off until they are ready to participate.
2. Bullying, derogatory, or sarcastic remarks will not be tolerated as well as the displaying of inappropriate pictures.
3. Learners are expected to be patient, be polite, and be respectful to one another so that we all can learn as a group.
4. Only one person at a time will speak (unmute yourself) while the rest of the group (are muted) to pay attention, follow, or listen to
the speaker or reader, because it is easier to understand and learn the lesson when we follow along.
5. Everyone will get a chance to speak, practice, or respond to questions therefore learners are expected to listen for their names so
that they can unmute themselves for the "round-robin your turn" interactions.
6. Learners are expected to only ask questions about our lessons to avoid interrupting instructions.

How Will I Teach?
I developed my course based on what I believe young learners need to enhance reading fluency and comprehension. My course focuses on developing phonics and decoding skills to help learners master the letters and their corresponding sounds, so that they can begin to develop their basic skills in reading, and strengthen these skills throughout their schooling. I utilize pictures and word associations to improve vocabulary retention that will allow learners to link their letter-sound knowledge into their spoken knowledge. I deliver my lessons with direct instructions, modeling, and supporting learners with guided instructions to make sure that they understand what is being taught. I assess students' understanding through observations and one-on-one
question-and-answer interactions during instructions.

My lessons will be downloaded through Zoom when I log in. These lessons will be shared only with the learners during the instructions. I will go over each page, using direct instructions, modeling, and guided instructions, then ask the learners (one at a time) to read or practice on the same skills. I read aloud a superhero story and ask comprehension questions at the end of each lesson.

My Teaching Style
I utilize the rote learning style of teaching to help young learners retain skills such as memorizing the alphabet, sounds, and numbers. I also utilize the repetition teaching technique as my strategy to provide young learners with the practice that they need to master new skills. Repetition of skills over and over helps to improve speed, increases confidence, and strengthens understanding of what is being taught.

I understand that different learners have different learning styles therefore I respect any style of learning as long as they are comfortable during instructions, focusing on the skills being taught, and their actions are not disruptive to the group. I provide plenty of motivations, compliments, and praises such as good, very good, good job, well done, beautiful, awesome, etc.

Classroom Interactions
Learners will get a chance to interact with me and the group during instructions after I present and model each skill. Only one person at a time will speak or read for the group to make sure that I listen to learners on a one-on-one basis. On some occasions, I will ask everyone to unmute themselves to practice the skills as a group, but on my cue or signal.

Required Experience or Knowledge
I expect all learners who are enrolled in my class to have experience in listening, following directions, and knowledge of the alphabet but not necessarily knowing the letters and their corresponding sounds.
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will be able to learn the most common sound-spelling relationships so that they can decode, or sound out words. They will be able to learn letter-sound recognition so that they can blend letters and sounds to read a complete word. They will be able to identify different objects, spell the word that names each object, sound out, or read the complete word. Learners will be able to follow along during reading and repeat simple sentences. I believe that phonics and decoding abilities are crucial elements in reading success. Students will learn the following skills:

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello everyone! I am Dr. Burton. I am a retired teacher with more than twenty-five years of teaching experience in elementary education. I hold highly qualified teacher certification in the State of Alabama. I have a lifetime certification in TESOL.

I provide online enrichment classes and supplemental lessons to learners ages 5-8. I encourage parents to ensure that the skills learned are practiced during and after each session. I teach elementary reading, phonics, decoding, and ESL to learners in grades K-3. My courses are progressive and will last for 12 to 16 lessons twice a week. I also provide one-on-one private tutoring, webinars, and pre-recorded video lessons.

I was conferred the Doctorate Degree in Education in 2009. I have taught general subjects from kindergarten to grade 3. I have taught Language Arts, Reading, and Spelling to students in grades 4 and 5. I was an ESL teacher/facilitator during my full-time services with the school system where I was employed. The last ten years of my teaching experience were focused on English as a Second Language (ESL).

I believe that everyone can learn regardless of age, race, nationality, and economic or social background. Together we can build a world where all youth have access to quality education.

I always think that it is fun to window shop just to get my walking exercises, especially when I am stationed in front of my computer monitor for a long period.
