This is a multi-day course in which young singers will learn the foundations of singing and performance in a group environment. Each class will begin with a series of stretches, breathing exercises, summer-themed vocal warm-ups and tongue twisters. Then we will learn a new contemporary musical theatre song together in a workshop session. After we have learned the song together, each student will have the opportunity to sing a portion of the song solo (unmuted) if they would like. Each class will end with a review of the concepts discussed and an opportunity for questions. The full schedule of songs and topics for the classes is as follows: Class 1: A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman We will begin with introductions so that students can get to know each other and create an encouraging environment to support each others' singing. Our focus for the warm-up portion of our class will be breathing exercises and techniques for singing. Class 2: Waving Through A Window from Dear Evan Hansen This class will include an introduction to proper posture for singing. Class 3: Naughty from Matilda the Musical This class will discuss diction for singing, with an emphasis on tongue twisters in our vocal warm-up. Class 4: Good Girl Winnie Foster from Tuck Everlasting In our final class, we will work on expression and communication in singing and performance. We will experiment with using different emotions as we sing our vocal warm-ups! Singers of all experience levels are welcome, as well as complete beginners! Please note that I will lead the song rehearsal and warm-ups while students will be muted, due to latency issues with Zoom. However, the class will remain highly interactive and there is an opportunity for students to share their voices during the solo singing portion of each class.
