Who doesn't enjoy a cup of tea in the afternoon? Add some bunnies and poetry, and it may just feel like an oasis in a chaotic day.

For three sessions, students will able to join me and my bunnies for a short time of tea and poems. Students bring their own tea -- and bunnies, stuffed or real, if they want -- to listen to poems about rabbits. Poet devices, such as metaphors, alliteration, and lyrical voice, will be briefly discussed to help the students understand and enjoy what they are hearing. Because the sessions are shorter in nature, the teaching time will be casual and brief to allow students a more relaxed, social time.

Each session will begin with introductions. After the students greet one another -- and their bunnies, if attending -- I will read a selection of poems, centered on the theme of rabbits.

The last class will include a chance for the students to write their own short poems.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn about poetic terms, specifically personification, alliteration, and onomatopoeia.

I teach writing of all kinds, from creative to essays to short stories and poems. I love words and playing around with them. I also love rabbits. I have been raising them for 40 years, and I am passionate about teaching people all about them and how to care for them.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in English/journalism and worked at a newspaper for about 25 years, writing stories about a variety of subjects (anything from how to care for your grass to car issues to diseases to people who raised bulldogs). I am curious by nature so these stories always proved enjoyable to me. I learned so much! I also used my knowledge of newspaper writing to teach homeschoolers all about writing. Currently, I freelance for a magazine and write for young people.

Learning is for always. It’s something I’ve told my kids: We should never finish learning and growing. It’s a big part of what keeps us young!

I moved quite often as a kid and one of my favorite places that I lived was England. I met my husband there, and when we married, we decided to teach our kids to be bilingual. We discovered we really are from two countries separated by a common language. It’s made life interesting at times, especially when we have a misunderstanding about a common word with two very different meanings.
