Experiencia de clase

Grado de EE. UU. 1
Nivel Beginner
In this ongoing weekly class, students will review foundational reading skills that are taught in 1st Grade. You will see weekly topics listed BUT these classes will have a lot of review of skills, so your student can join in at any time!

This class is perfect for students who:
🔵 Are ENTERING first grade and want to get a head start on their reading skills.
🔵 Students who have FINISHED first grade but would like a little extra review and practice.

I love to teach foundational reading concepts using fun hands on activities, games, interactive videos, daily writing practice, fun read alouds and engaging grade level texts for them to practice reading! My program is based on the Orton Gillingham method and aligns with the Science of Reading.

For each class, I will review a combination of skills in each category, students will do an activity/practice the skills with the class, then the students will have an opportunity to do individual practice.

Providing positive reinforcement is very important to me while I am teaching my classes! I want students to feel successful and be able to practice their reading skills in a positive and fun environment! I will give your learner specific and positive feedback so that they can fix mistakes if needed and celebrate their successes!

Here is a list of concepts that will be taught throughout the Summer of 2024

Hello Parents and Students!

Hi my name is Mary Teegarden. My online students call me Miss Mary.

I am a mom of three amazing kids. When I am not teaching I love to read, sing and spend time with my family and friends.

This is my 27th year as a teacher. I have been a classroom teacher, a children's director, a reading intervention teacher for grades K-2 and most recently a private reading tutor and online teacher. I earned my Bachelor Of Elementary Education Degree from the University of Kentucky and my Master's Degree in Reading and Writing from Northern Kentucky University. I hold a teaching certificate in Grade K-5 in the state of Kentucky.

I am very passionate about teaching. I especially love anything to do with reading!! I love to see children learn and grow. Developing relationships with my students is so important to me and I enjoy getting to know each child in my class. I think that learning should be fun and plan lessons and activities for my classes that get students moving and thinking.

I will be teaching foundational reading skills in my classes for grades K-2. My classes will include phonemic awareness skills, letter recognition and sound, word building as well as sight word building skills.

I can't wait to meet your son or daughter!! See you soon!
