This class is a fun and interactive summer camp where your student will learn all about space, the solar system, and universe around them. We will dive into the planets, stars, constellations, and the galaxy in general. We will also discuss Nasa, for those wanting to be an astronaut later in life.

After each class, students will have a project to do at home that is hands on. They will also have other fun projects and activities that will get them out of the house and discovering things around them. This class is very interactive and they can share and show their projects and activities in the following class. Each week, following class, I will post in class and link them to a google folder that will have all of their work and extra materials on the topic. Nothing is required, but this class is more fun if they are interactive.

Class 1
The first class we will begin with introductions. We will then dive into the solar system, look at each planet, what it is made of, pictures from the Hubble telescope, what could or could not live on these planets, and more. We will also look at Marsm the discovery there, and more. We will take a complex look at the planets in our own system. We will end class with Solar System trivia, discussion, and they will have a fun project.

At the end, your student will choose one planet to build and find facts on and build, OR they can do the whole solar system. They can use Lego, craft materials, clay, playdough, or whatever method they want. They get to really create a planet and then find 3 major facts about it to show the class.

Class 2
Students will show planets they made and their facts with us to begin class. We will then learn about the sun and earth's moon in our solar system, and we will also look at moons of other planets. We will learn the phases of the moon, the different eclipses, what the moon controls, the moon landing, how hot the sun really is, distance to the sun, and more. We will also cover stars inclduing their brightness, lifespan, constellations and more.

Their assignment will be to create their own constellation with straight pretzels or toothpicks and marshmallows OR they can create moon rocks. I will load a guide for each of these in the classroom for you to follow.

Class 3
We will begin with students showing off their constellations or moon rocks. We will then dive into the universe and galaxy we live in including our galaxy, the milky way, what might exist beyond it, black holes, nebulas, black matter, more. We will also look at what Gravity really is and the lack of it in space. We will end with NASA, what it means to be an astronaut, how it would be to live in space, the ISS, and more. We will end class with a fun project and fun videos from space.

*Disclaimer - Science is changing all around us all the time. Theories are everywhere in Science. Some theories have been proved, and some have not. I am teaching from what we know so far about the Solar System, the Galaxy, and more and I also teach on what they will be tested on standard wise. I will offer open discussion for the students to ask questions and share their opinions of things. I urge students to always dig deeper and challenge their thinking about everything. Even scientists do this. So if there is something in class that you feel uneasy about, please reach out. I realize this topic can be a tricky one. Thanks.

Come join the fun!

I have taught this class for a while and love teaching students about space, the planets, and the stars. This is a fun class and the students have a blast learning about the science of space. I have taught for the largest Charter in the country and worked with all subjects and all grades. This class was a hit with my students.
