1-2 horas por semana. When homework is assigned, I call it practice. It will only be the same kinds of work we do together during our session. It's only assigned so I can see if the learner can now do the work without my support, so parent help is strongly discouraged. If your learner doesn't understand the homework, or needs help, it's best to let them wait and we'll cover the material again in a different way. Most of the time when I assign practice work it will be a screenshot of the work we did in class, so your learner will have all of his/her notes right there. In order for me to check in before the next scheduled session to see if they are getting it or need further assistance, your learner will have to send me their work either as an image or pdf. I try to respond to messages as soon as I receive them, so guidance from me is often available between sessions as long as it's not abused.Evaluación
Assessment is only ever conducted on the request of the parent. If you need a formal assessment for school records, we will arrange that on a per-student basis. Other than that, I monitor growth and progress and will send a monthly note to parents.Experiencia de clase

This is an ongoing, one-on-one math tutoring class. It is set up for 4 weeks, but can be extended or ended at anytime, and I have some flexibility to change the day/time as well. So if the available schedules don't work for you, let me know what will. The class can be set up to suit your learner's needs, you have 3 basic options to chose from. Option 1: Basic homework help or homeschool support. This is for students who struggle a bit and just need a little more guided help on their independent math work. Ideal of 5th-7th graders who need a boost of confidence but can typical manage to stay afloat in math. Learners will have to submit the work they want to work on 24 hours prior to their lesson time so I have time to prepare. We will look over the lesson, I'll teach strategies and language to help, and give some practice problems similar to the homework. Then, if requested, the learner can submit their finished work to me to check for accuracy before turning it in. **PLEASE NOTE** we will NOT be completing homework "together" that is not tutoring. Option 2: Getting ahead for advanced learners. This is for students who either love math and/or excel in it, but want to spend more time with it. We play games, solve complicated problems, and apply math to everyday life (or the very out there imagined life). I will still offer feedback on homework if the learner wants it. But the focus of these lessons is to challenge the learner to use the math they already know, and expand their skills. Option 3: Math Recon This is for students who struggle hard with math, maybe they have a learning disability (I hate that word, but that's how the world describes learning differences), or they just missed some basic skills early on. Whatever the reason, these learners are at least a year behind in functioning math skills. Classes for this learner will not include homework at all. Our focus is to go back, as far as we have to, to find the holes. As we fill the learner's holes of knowledge and understanding, we'll fly forward as far as we can (sometimes even past their current grade level) with that skill. When we reach a point of satisfaction, we go back and find another hole. All three of these options are also available in a 2-day a week class, here: https://outschool.com/classes/one-on-one-math-tutoring-twice-a-week-czlZgcrN
Metas de aprendizaje
Since this is a one-on-one private tutoring setting, your learner's goals will be unique for their circumstances. To give you a basic idea of goals I've set with my students here's a short list:
*Develop fluency with operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing)
*Prepare for tests
*Develop number sense with fractions, decimals, and percents
*Overcome basic math anxiety
*Achieve grade level competency (for students falling behind at least 1/2 a grade)
*Challenge growth beyond grade level mastery (for students interested in learning more about content in an area not yet covered by their current grade curriculum).

Hi! My students usually call me Miss Stefany.
In the course of earning my bachelor's of arts in social sciences (with a concentration in education), I decided that the big classroom setting was not for me. I finished the program, but started private, one-on-one tutoring instead. That was 11 years ago now, and I've never regretted the decision! I love being able to work with the same students for multiple years, getting to know them and their families, and developing the relationships. They come to trust me, and I spend a good amount of time as a counselor as well as a teacher!
About 6 years ago I embarked on a new adventure of group tutoring, as well a online tutoring. I held a few summer math camps in person, and worked with a few students over the internet. Both experiences were a blast, so I merged the two and started offering group lessons online in 2019. It's been an exciting chapter in my journey in education, and I have since started my own math teaching company, Unique Math Minds, LLC. Since I love the community here at Outschool, I still offer classes when I can.
Math is my passion. I love numbers, patterns, and discovering the rules these numbers have to follow. This passion comes out in the way I teach and even kids with math anxiety end up getting excited about our lessons. I teach with the individual learner in mind, so I make sure to offer lessons with multiple strengths in mind. For example, I love to use hands on objects to make math concepts come to life; we do a lot of talking about the relationships and rules, reasoning on the whys of math strategies; and then there are the lessons that we get up and move around, making a dance to help us remember facts or moving around the room to make the geometry come to life. Whatever your learners' strengths are, you are bound to find some of my classes that meet their unique needs.
One unique thing about me that makes lessons with me a little different is that I know what its like to struggle! Growing up, learning came easy to me. I was always head of my class and could pass a test with minimal studying. But when I was 18 I was in a terrible car accident that almost killed me. I was in a coma for 3 days, and suffered a closed head injury that cause temporary amnesia and damage to my short term memory. For years I struggled to do the most basic things. But through diligence and research, I found strategies to help me overcome this challenge. My studies in college also helped me to learn about how we learn and ways we can rewire our brains. I still have to take tedious notes and set reminders on my phone! But not only can I keep up with the daily tasks of raising teenagers and being a supportive wife, I've also been able to manage a business and create resources for teachers on the side. This experience has created humility and understanding for my students who struggle the most, and when they know this fact about me they typically lose any fear they had about getting extra help.
