Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 1 - 3
In this ongoing class, students will learn writing skills and will work on improving their writing. This class meets four days a week. Each week, the class will be given a weekly writing goal. I will give minilessons and students will do activities that focus on the weekly goal. Students will also be given a new writing topic each week. Students will brainstorm, write a draft, revise, edit, write a final draft, and publish their writing during the week. Each week's goal and writing assignment will be different so you are welcome to join for any week. I do ask that when you join, you are able to commit to all four classes that week. This will make it easier for your learner to understand and practice the entire writing process. Below is a breakdown of the classes each week:

Day 1: Brainstorming and Writing
Students will be introduced to the weekly goal. This goal will be based on the different traits of writing: sentence fluency, organization, word choice, voice, or conventions. I will present a minilesson on the weekly goal, its importance in our writing, and how to apply it to our writing. Then, I will give students the writing topic for the week. We will use a graphic organizer to brainstorm our ideas. I will model how to fill out the graphic organizer with my ideas. Then, the students will fill out their own organizer with their ideas. I will model how to use the organizer to write a draft. Students will use their organizer and write their own draft. As they are writing, I will check-in with each student to make sure they have some ideas to write on and to assist with brainstorming some ideas for their writing.

Day 2: Revising and Editing
Students will review the weekly goal. I will present a minilesson. During the minilesson, students will practice the weekly goal. The students will revise their writing as they focus on the weekly goal. I will model how to revise my writing and show students how to incorporate the weekly goal into my writing. Next, students will revise their own writing. I will assist students as needed. Then, I will show students how to edit their writing. I use a method called COPS: Capitals, Organization, Punctuation, and Spelling. Students will edit their writing using each part of the method to guide their editing. As they are editing, I will check-in with each student to help. After class, students can send me a picture of their writing in a message in our classroom. I will also edit their writing for them and send it back to them. Students can add my edits onto their paper.

Day 3: Final Draft
Students will review the weekly goal. I will present a minilesson on our weekly goal. Students will practice the weekly goal independently. Then, students will write their final draft. I will model how to write my final draft using my revisions and editing from the day before. Students will write their own final draft making sure they include their editing. Students will be encouraged to write in their best handwriting. As students finish writing their final drafts, we will do an activity that practices the weekly goal.

Day 4: Publish
Students will review the weekly goal. Students will create a booklet with their writing. I will show students my example using my writing. Students will be writing their draft into a book and then, drawing pictures for each part of their writing. At the end of class, students will share their writing with the group.

I have taught as a classroom teacher for twelve years. Great writing comes from practicing and learning different writing skills. Using the writing process is a skill students need to learn to be successful writers. This class provides students with the opportunity to practice the writing process each week.
