Swim in the Andaman Ocean, zipline through the jungle and climb Doi Inthanon in this virtual guide through Thailand's most awe-inspiring sights. In this three week course, we will explore some of the unique gems that make Thailand into the place it is today: The Land of Smiles. After living in Thailand for several years, both working and traveling, I am able to give first-hand experience of the adventure through my own observations as well as the interviews I did with natives and locals along the way. Dive into the diverse traditions and traverse the verdant jungles of Thailand, all without ever leaving your home. Day 1: On our first day together, we will start where all stories do - at the beginning. Walk in the steps of Thailand's ancestors and learn about some of the most interesting aspects of Thai history including Ayutthaya (the previous capital of Siam), the reasoning behind the name change from "Siam" to "The Kingdom of Thailand", and the bloodless revolution that changed the history of this country forever. Day 2: On day two we will jump into the present culture and examine some of the traditions from old as seen in the modern day. We will discuss two Thai holidays in depth and compare them to what we might see in our own countries. In this lesson we will discuss the major differences in culture between Western and Thai cultures, learning the "Do's and Don't" as well as the thoughts behind them. Day 3: Our third day together brings us to major provinces and landmarks in Thailand. We will begin in the south and travel north through popular locations including Phuket, Krabi, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and others. Sightseeing in these places will take us through adventures including scuba diving and snorkeling, zip-lining, regional wildlife, and the unique local hot spots that make each province special. Day 4: Day four dawns with two things that Thailand has in abundance: Temples and tasty food! We will talk about the significance of temples and how they play a very active part in everyday life in Thailand, and discuss some of the most interesting and significant temples that Thailand has to offer. This conversation will be paired with the regional food that can be found near each sacred location, with both the Thai and English names. Day 5: On our penultimate and fifth meeting, we will take a peek into the Thai language and how the culture lends to the idioms or daily saying that can be found all over Thailand. We will discuss similarities and differences between Western and Thai phrases, and practice basic sentences together in Thai in order to get deeper insight into this tonal language. Day 6: Our last day entails a sharing of details about the royal family and some interesting facts about the effect that they have on daily life, including the 8:00 am and 6:00 pm anthem routine, the lèse-majesté rule, Thailand's versions of "Mother's Day" and "Father's day" as well as some other interesting tidbits and trivia facts. This interactive, virtual field trip is not one to miss! I create my entire teaching schedule based on schedule requests, so if you don't see a time that works for you, please put in a request! I can only teach live classes from 10 AM to 4 PM Arizona time. If you need to watch the class outside of this time frame, you should consider taking the "flex" version of this class, which can be found here: https://outschool.com/classes/virtual-field-trip-6-weeks-in-thailand-tPUOaydE#us3ZXggbyk
