Welcome to class! American Sign Language is full of feelings and life that can be shown through our hands and facial expressions. Are you curious to know how you can have a full conversation without ever saying a word? In this course we will get an introduction to the language and a few cultural tips to keep in mind. Here is the break down of this 4-day course: Day 1: We will be focusing on learning the alphabet, basic introductions and questions. Let's get to know our class by practicing what we learned together. Day 2: We know how to introduce ourselves but now let's see how we introduce family members. Other than family signs, we will also be learning how to express our feelings. Lastly we will add in some food signs. Now we can practice constructing different sentences to express thoughts and feelings. Day 3: Let's add in some conversational questions. On our 3rd day we will focus on knowing how to have a simple conversation in ASL. We will practice asking and answering questions that we may have in an everyday conversation or when first meeting someone in the Deaf community. One this day we will even try to have a simple conversations while not speaking. This will help us practice our receptive skills and help us know what to expect when interacting with someone in the community. Day 4: On our last day we will practice everything we have learned throughout the course and use it as a review day. Feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding a sign you are curious about. Keep in mind, it takes lots of practice. We may not be able to memorize every sign in one day so don't be discouraged. In class we will be using lots of repetition and class participation to help us practice. I will share tips that helped me grow with the language and feel comfortable while signing.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have been a part of the deaf community for several years and fell in love with the language and cultural quickly. After learning the language, I would volunteer at Deaf events and do my best to be involved wherever I could. Eventually I decided to join an Interpreting Program to improve my skills and I graduated with my Associates degree in Sign Language Interpreting. Since graduating, I have worked as an Interpreter in the educational system and within the community. I am excited to share the beauty of this language with other young ones to encourage them to see how amazing it can be to be a part of something bigger.
