• Posture Matters: Develop good posture and hand position for a strong foundation in flute technique • Articulation Basics: Introduce basic tonguing techniques for clean note beginnings • Music Notation (Optional): Start learning to read basic music notation for independent practice (adaptable based on student progress) • Building Repertoire: Practice a foundational repertoire of simple flute pieces to develop musical skills

• Progress Check: Review and refine posture, tone production, and fingering accuracy for polished playing • Flute Care: Learn how to clean and maintain the flute properly to ensure its longevity • Expanding the Repertoire: Explore new and exciting melodies to keep learning fun and engaging • Music Theory Introduction (Optional): Begin developing basic music theory concepts for a deeper understanding of music (adaptable based on student progress)

Lesson 4 (Day 4): Showcase & Next Steps (30 mins)
• Celebrate Success: Present learned pieces for the coach, showcasing their achievements and progress • Personalized Feedback: Receive valuable feedback and tips for continued development on their flute journey • Continuing the Journey (Optional): Discuss options for continuing flute lessons, summer camps, or other programs to maintain momentum • Practice Resources: Explore potential resources for further practice and musical exploration to fuel their passion for flute
  • 1. Produce a clear tone on the flute using proper embouchure and breath support. 2. Play simple melodies in the first octave with correct fingering and basic articulation. 3. Demonstrate proper posture and hand position while playing the flute.
  • 4. Perform a basic warm-up routine and understand its importance for effective practice. 5. Assemble, clean, and maintain the flute correctly. 6. Read and interpret basic music notation for the flute (if applicable to student's progress).
  • 7. Present learned pieces, showcasing progress made over the four lessons.

Hello everyone! I'm Gwenna, and I'm passionate about making flute education an exciting, accessible journey for students of all ages and skill levels. My teaching philosophy is built on the belief that learning music should be a joyful exploration, tailored to each student's unique interests and goals.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Over 10 years of flute playing experience
• Bachelor's degree in Flute Performance with a minor in Music Education from McGill University
• Pursuing a Master's in Flute Performance at McGill University
• Studied under renowned flutists including Chris James (piccolo player for the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal), Natalie Sparrow, Amy Tori, Tina Yoo, Alexa Still, Catherine Ransom-Caroly, and Cindy Shuter
• Skilled pianist with 7 levels of training
• Experienced electric bass player in a Montreal rock band
• Currently teaching guitar to kids aged 5-12
