In this Camp (4 class meetings held during 1 week) , we'll use the Chemistry features included in Minecraft Education & Minecraft Bedrock Edition (Windows, iPad, Nintendo Switch, PS4 versions), to experiment with chemical reactions, like elephant toothpaste! We'll also learn about real-life lab safety rules and build a science education center with NPCs (Non-Player Characters) that explain how to work in a lab safely. In addition, we'll learn how to make Bleach, Super Glue, Benzene, Underwater Torches and Sparklers of different colors.

This Camp is a fun and engaging way to learn real-life chemistry concepts. The course will be held in Creative Mode, and each student will be working within their own self-created world. Students should already know the basics of using Minecraft, including how to use a Crafting Table and how to access their inventory. Students will need to be able to access Zoom and Minecraft simultaneously, either by utilizing a second device, or by having both Zoom and Minecraft windows visible on the same screen. Students will need to know how to place and open a Crafting Table (this same process is used to place and open the Chemistry-related blocks).

Please note that the Chemistry module is only available for Minecraft Education Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition (which includes Minecraft for Windows 10, Mac, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Playstation, and Minecraft Mobile Edition for iPads & Android tablets); unfortunately, the software publisher has not added the Chemistry functions to Minecraft Java Edition. If your learner is playing Minecraft Windows 10, or playing on an iPad, Android tablet, Switch or PS4, then you have the right version of Minecraft to use for this course!

The camp will teach the following topics:

Session 1:
- Overview of Minecraft Chemistry Tools
- Atom Scavenger Hunt using the Material Reducer
- How to make Bleach and understanding what Bleach does in real life
- Make Banners in Minecraft and use bleach in Minecraft
- Start designing a Science Lab Building - we'll look at examples of real science labs for inspiration and guidance

Session 2:
- Understanding the difference between molecules and mixtures
- Make some Benzene and Super Glue
- How to use the Brewing Stand to make potions
- How scientists distill and "brew" chemical compounds in real life
- How to make an Awkward Potion (the base for other potions)
- How to make an Antidote (cure for Poison) and learning how an antidote works in real life
- We'll continue building a science education lab and learn how to add NPCs (Non-Player Characters) that explain lab safety

Session 3:
- Learn about Solutes and Solvents
- Continue exploring the Brewing Stand and making Potions
- How to make an Elixir (cure for Weakness)
- How to make Eye Drops (cure for Blindness) and learn how eye drops work in real life
- How to make a Tonic (cure for Nausea) and learn how antacids work
- How to make Potion of Weakness and Suspicious Stew
- Learn about the different glassware used in a chemistry lab and learn how to make some hardened glass in Minecraft

Session 4:
- Show-and-tell of student Science Lab Builds
- How to make Elephant Toothpaste and understanding the chemical reactions involved in real life elephant toothpaste
- How to make Underwater Torches
- How to make Sparklers of various colors and learning how different colored sparklers and fireworks are made in real life

----
If you are not using the Education Edition and would like to check that your version of Minecraft has the option to turn on Education Mode, please do the following:
1. Create a new world and set it to Creative
2. Scroll down until you see the words "Education Mode," and toggle it to the ON position. (By default, it will be Off).
That's it! As long as you can see the option to turn on Education Mode, you will have free access to the Chemistry features in Minecraft.
