1 hora por semana. Homework is offered every week but it is optional. The homework will consist of worksheets, short essays, and labs. If the homework is completed and submitted to me then I will grade it and offer feedback. If a letter grade or number grade is requested then it will be assigned to the work otherwise the student will receive feedback on what was done well and what needs to be worked on.Evaluación
Students will receive formative assessments throughout the 16 week class.They are optional and they are done as take home assignments. At the end of the 16 weeks students will receive a summative semester exam. Any student wishing to receive a grade for the class must complete the semester exam.Calificación
Grades are optional. Students may take the class for either no grade, a pass or fail grade or a letter grade. Grades are calculated as shown below… Attendance 15% Participation 15% Homework 20% Semester exam 50% All students who desire a letter grade must complete the semester exam to receive a letter grade. In this class we will explore the major topics of Earth Science including geology, oceanography and meteorology. The class will involve a brief slide presentation where students are encouraged to ask questions followed by video clips, games and discussion. Optionally, parents may requests that students receive assignment each week which I will grade as well as tests and quizzes for each unit. Session 1 :Scope of and Introduction to Earth Science -identifying the spheres of Earth Science Session 2: Minerals (What makes up minerals) -mineral identification online lab Session 3: Rocks (What makes up rocks?) -rock cycle online lab Session 4 Structure of the Earth (What's inside?) -layers of the earth diagram Session 5: Weathering & Erosion (How the earth breaks up?) -erosion videos Session 6: The Moving Earth (How does it move?) -plate tectonics and Pangea activity Session 7: Earthquakes (Why all of the shaking?) -earthquake simulation Session 8: Volcanoes (What so explosive?) -volcano drawing Session 9: Water Cycle (Why so special?) -water cycle diagram Session 10: Atmosphere (What is the earth's blanket?) -how high is the atmosphere activity Session 11: Atmosphere Clouds -cloud identification Session 12: Atmosphere Weather Patterns -charting high and low pressure Session 13 Oceans (Key to life on earth) -Ocean videos Session 14: Ocean Zones -Ocean Zone drawings Session 15: Oceans and Currents - charting ocean currents Session 16: Oceans Features and Life -Ocean depth activity This class will be highly interactive and students will be encouraged to participate and ask questions. Class will begin with a warm up and an opportunity for the students to be creative.Then there will be a discussion where students will have the chance to interact with each other and myself. Finally, at the end of each class there will be a review game to help students master the material. No prior knowledge of Earth Science is necessary.
