No slide shows . . . no videos . . . no props !

A child's imagination is a priceless gift. Too often these days, other things get in the way. Screen time, a busy schedule, school struggles, and stress are just a few of the things that can stifle a child's imagination.

The good news is that imagination is like a muscle; the more you "flex" it, the stronger it grows! So much is going on in your learner's mind when listening to a story:

Focusing and listening
Visualizing the characters and setting
Sequencing the events
Increasing vocabulary
Seeing and hearing expression and inflection modeled
Increasing background knowledge
and much more!

"Fox's Sack" is a rollicking story with a little bit of music and a funny ending! This story is a traditional English folk tale. Folk tales are stories in the oral tradition, or tales that people tell each other out loud, rather than stories in written form. This story has previously been adapted into books, However, this version—including the songs—is my own interpretation.

After brief introductions, we will talk about the title of the story and share guesses regarding what it's about. All students will have the opportunity to make predictions, answer questions, and share prior knowledge. We will also discuss any special vocabulary words the learners might not already know.

The story has several words and phrases that repeat. Your learner is encouraged to remain unmuted and chime in on those parts of the story. Hearing each other's reactions to the story builds community as we share in the fun!

After the story, we will talk about what we learned.

Listening to stories sparks joy and excitement in your learner. Your child may be inspired to retell this story over and over to friends and family and—even better—to make up his/her own stories! I hope your learner will join us!
