La hora del cuento y el arte dirigido

In the beginning of each class we'll discuss different parts of a book and what authors and illustrators do. We'll learn the difference between fiction and nonfiction and look at the book of the week for clues to predict which type it is. 

Next, we'll read the story of the week. I like to engage with the children by letting them ask questions or make comments throughout the story. It helps me learn more about each learner :)

At the end of the book, we'll discuss whether it was fiction or nonfiction and why, I'll ask comprehension questions, and each child will get an opportunity to review the book and share their thoughts with the class.

Finally, we'll draw a character from the book step by step using shapes and lines. After the directed art portion, the children will have a few minutes to add their own finishing touches to their pictures (trees, flowers, blue sky, etc.).

Directed art will help the children learn patience and build confidence when they share their masterpiece with the class. Everyone's picture will be a little different and that's what makes it special! Because YOU were the artist.
