Experiencia de clase

I have my Ph.D. in English, specializing in Children's Literature. My research focus is fantasy literature, so I have quite a collection of fairy books! My lively and energetic reading will engage your young fairy enthusiast! Coloring sheets will be provided each day to keep little hands busy. Fairy toys and costumes are highly recommended! Students will have the opportunity to share their favorite fairy toys and pictures.

September 18: Good Night, Fairies by Kathleen Hague
September 25: How to Trick the Tooth Fairy by Erin Danielle Russell
October 2: Ten Magic Butterflies by Danica McKellar
October 9: Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen
October 16: Here Comes the Tooth Fairy Cat by Deborah Underwood
October 23: It's Not Fairy by Ros Asquith
October 30: A Fairy Friend by Sue Fliess
November 6: Bloom by Doreen Cronin
November 13: The Woman Who Flummoxed the Fairies by Heather Forest
November 20: April and Esme, Tooth Fairies by Bob Graham
November 27: Too Many Fairies by Margaret Read MacDonald
December 4: Backyard Fairies by Phoebe Wahl
December 11: Twinkle Thinks Pink by Katharine Holabird
December 18: Pinkalicious: Fairy House by Victoria Kann - We will make our winter fairy house!

If time allows, students will hear a fairy poem by Cicely Mary Barker!

“People would stand in line for days and pay hundreds of dollars if there were a pill that could do everything for a child that reading aloud does. It expands their interest in books, vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and attention span.” (Jim Trelease, The Read-Aloud Handbook)

Reading aloud is one of the most important things we do every day. According to Dr. Joseph Price, "[O]ne extra day per week of parent-child [or teacher-child] read-aloud sessions during the first ten years of a child's life increases standardized test scores by half a standard deviation. That's as many as 15-30 percentile points" (Sarah Mackenzie, The Read-Aloud Family, pg. 63-64).

*Students will be muted while I read to eliminate distracting background noise, but we will have interactive breaks.

*I recommend putting Zoom on “Active Speaker View” instead of “Gallery View” in the top right hand corner.

*The 20 minute time allotment is a rough estimate. Class may be slightly shorter or longer.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I earned my Ph.D. in English, specializing in Children's Literature, from the University of Memphis, and I've been teaching English courses at the elementary, high school, and college levels since 2006. I've traveled to over 20 countries, and I am a mom of 4 kids through biology and adoption! I'm now a Charlotte Mason Classical homeschooler.
