In this class, we will study the fairy tales, mythology, and legends of Germany and gain all the benefits of travel from the comfort of our own homes. Students in this class will learn facts about history and culture through the lens of popular folk tales and legends. Your child will learn to apply concepts from the core subjects of social studies, history, and literature. At the end of the lesson, we will develop critical thinking skills by discussing which character, story, or creature each student found most interesting and why, followed by an analysis of what each character or creature tells us about the country, the people who live there, and those who lived there many centuries ago.

We will start with a very brief overview of Germany's history, concentrating on important events that have shaped the people and society. Next, we will discuss stories that define their culture and traditions and their lasting importance in the cultural identity of Germany. We close with students sharing and discussing their favorite story or figure from that week.

This is a stand-alone class and no previous knowledge or work is necessary.
