Experiencia de clase

This is part four of a five-class series on safety with strangers and tricky people. It is recommended that learners take these classes in order as they build knowledge from class to class.

The same content is available in two formats:
The first format is "camp-style" or multi-day, with scheduled sections available. You can find the class schedule and sign up here: https://outschool.com/classes/super-safety-camp-strangers-and-tricky-people-and-being-the-boss-of-my-body-bu9zPfb7?usid=VbdChdTp&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

Additionally, I have created a FLEX-style course that is self-paced, featuring prerecorded lessons. There are no live classes for this format. You can access the FLEX course here: https://outschool.com/classes/safety-strangers-and-tricky-people-io1xxgIh?usid=VbdChdTp&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

In this five-class series, learners will develop their awareness and understanding of safety with strangers and tricky people through information and scenarios.

Part 4: Tricky People that I Know & Secrets

In this class, we will discuss and answer the following questions:
-Who are tricky people that I know and where might I spot them? This discussion is intended to make learners good detectives "just in case" and not to scare them.
-Tricky people use fun secrets to gain trust. Students will learn the safety rule "I never keep secrets with grown-ups and big kids." We will explore the difference between secrets and surprises and how to respond when a grown-up or big kid tries to keep a secret with them.

Learners will understand that safe grown-ups and big kids ALWAYS respect their body.
Learners will recognize how a safe grown-up would respond if told that they felt uncomfortable with their touch. An example we use is when an adult sits a child on their lap without asking.

This week's class will be followed up with an extension activity in their tricky people detective notebooks. Learners will also have a practice quiz on secrets versus surprises.

For more guidance on the "secret rule" read here: https://genmindful.com/blogs/mindful-moments/safe-adults-don-t-ask-kids-to-keep-secrets

Please reach out with any questions you have.

Orientación para padres
Please read my class description thoroughly to understand how I approach this topic and the specifics discussed. I take great care in making the topic fun and not scary. Empowering my learners to understand that we prepare for safety in a variety of areas in life "just in case". There will be no discussion of inappropriate touching of private parts--rather a guide for parents to discuss these things as they see fit in their own way (see the link provided in the class description). In this series, I discuss touching in a basic way (kiss, hug, sitting too close, touching leg, sitting on someone's lap, and tickling). I highly encourage trusted adults to follow up this class with a conversation about the possibility of tricky people being people they know. This series opens the door for you to have a chat with your learner(s) about appropriate physical touch.
