Experiencia de clase

In this one time class, your child will have a __________ time filling out Mad Libs and reviewing basic part of speech!

Learning parts of speech is an important, albeit frightening, part of any student's school career. Unfortunately, many students finish their education without a firm grasp on the difference between an adjective and an adverb, or even between a noun and a verb. In this class children will get fun and meaningful practice by taking part in a game of Mad Libs. But it doesn't just stop there. Our theme is SPOOKY! Students will be required to bring a flashlight to class. I will be in a dark(ish) room presenting this class. I invite your child to do the same. Build a small fort, turn off all the lights in the living room, pull a blanket over their head at the kitchen table - just don't fall off the chair - whatever you have to do to get in a SPOOKY mood!
*Parents please note, this class is not meant to be scary, I will not be trying to scare anyone or make this creepy, my goal is to have fun. Please consider your individual child and if they would find this class fun or scary.

Class Routine: By flashlight, and a presentation on the screen, we will start class by reviewing what a noun, plural noun, verb, adverb, and an adjective is. Then I will read the first sentence aloud with no blanks filled in and we will discuss how the sentence doesn't really make sense or how it sounds uninteresting. But with the power of parts of speech, they can make their story sound really interesting!

We will put that into practice by working through the Mad Lib together and filling in the blanks as a group. Once finished, I will read our spooky story aloud, and let the giggles begin! There is an optional one-page printout for them draw an illustration to go along with our SPOOKY and silly story.

If you are not familiar with Mad Libs, they are a fill in the blank style story. The blanks are filled in with random words from a chosen category (noun, verb, shape, etc.). My goal is to complete at least one story each class, but if time allows, we may do more.
The combination of the silly stories and random words are hilarious! Children who are having fun are more invested in the activity, and learning and practicing grammar skills while their at it!

A new SPOOKY theme Mad Lib will be used every class, if your child enjoyed it, they can join another class!

Hello, I'm Ms. Rebeka, a life long learner turned teacher! Let me tell you about myself.

I am an educator with the World Awareness Children's Museum located in upstate New York, USA. Downstairs is where all the hands-on, interactive exhibits are. This is where I create and teach Storytime for preschoolers, take elementary aged children on tours around the world - well around the world IN the museum, and design and lead camps for children age 3-12 based on art, exploration, and because I love to read, literature!
Upstairs, is where all the artifacts are stored safely, and I teach virtually. Here, surrounding schools invite me virtually into their classrooms and I get to teach their students about world culture, traditions, and celebrations.

Personally, I am a mom of three teenagers, a homeschool mom, and a homeschool graduate myself. My husband and I are raising our children across from a horse farm, with our cat Ella (who thinks she is a human too), our dog Appa (yes, she is named after the flying bison from The Last Airbender), and our five fancy mice, named Chi Chi, Coco, Louise, Bunny Bo Bo, and Fudge!

I have been a homeschool instructor for 4+ years, but really see myself as a mentor or guide. I like to find children's interest and teach them topics through that interest so they are engaged and invested! I have put together book club discussions for children in both middle school and high school - I DO really love to read.

I have been working with children and their families in some capacity for 11+ years. Within Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA's, to being on the Parent Council with the LARC Community Center for families with children who have Autism, and on the Board of Directors for KKC Cares, who help families work through trauma. Children are truly a passion of mine, and helping to create a space that makes them feel comfortable and confident is one of the reason's I began to teach.

I try to be a teacher that I would have liked, or would like my children to have. Someone who is kind, encouraging, thoughtful, respectful, and wants to make you smile. I still love to learn and research! Spending time with, and teaching children, let's me learn along side them. There are SO many fantastic things about our world and my goal is to share in that discovery. I love to see their faces light up with a new interesting fact, or celebrate a new found knowledge with them!

I hope you will join me in one of my learning adventures!
