Ciencia espeluznante: experimentos divertidos de Halloween y una actividad STEM

Learners will be very active and hands-on throughout the class as we set up two Halloween-themed experiments and one STEM activity together. First, we will generate static electricity using a balloon and make a tissue paper bat fly. I will then give a short lesson using a shared screen with Canva slides explaining how this experiment works. Second, we will inflate a ghost balloon using the chemical reaction caused by mixing baking soda and vinegar. I will follow this experiment with a short lesson explaining the science behind this chemical reaction. Finally, we will use popsicle sticks and rubber bands to build a candy catapult. I will talk about the use of potential and kinetic energy in our catapult. Although it is called "Spooky Science", the experiments are fun and won't be scary for any age. I will engage learners by asking questions throughout the class to help demonstrate understanding, but they do not need to have any background or experience in order to thrive! I look forward to seeing your learner in class soon! :)
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will understand the role of electrons in static electricity as they make their tissue paper bat fly. They will also understand the chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar, knowing what causes their balloon to inflate. They will gain a basic understanding of kinetic and potential energy as we build a candy catapult.

Orientación para padres
Although we will have fun with Halloween topics such as bats and ghosts, none of the content presented will be scary for learners. Younger learners may need assistance with several parts of the class: blowing up a balloon, pouring vinegar into a bottle, using a funnel to add baking soda to a deflated balloon, and using rubber bands to secure popsicle sticks. Many of these can be completed before class by an adult if the adult wishes to remain hands-off throughout the class.

I will be sharing my screen and using Canva slides. The learner does NOT need to have a Canva account.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology and over two years of online teaching experience. I have worked in both environmental and microbiology laboratories. I also have young children who love doing fun science experiments with me at home.
