Give your child the foundation necessary to be a successful second language learner ¡Aprendamos juntos! Let's learn together! 🌎 📚 Classes follow the following format: ✏️ Pregunta del día (Question of the Day): 5-10 minute icebreaker to get students listening and responding in simple Spanish, all while getting to know one another. ✏️ Vocabulary and Grammar Instruction: 15-20 minute topical lesson, presented through interactive slides and fun visuals. ✏️ Game or Hands-on Activity: 15-20 minute game, worksheet, or activity to reinforce and apply newly learned concepts in a collaborative, positive environment. Week 1: (January 20-24) Alphabet, Vowels, and Special Letters 🔤 This week's lesson will center on the alphabet, vowels, and special letters (ch, ll, ñ, rr) in Spanish. We will learn an alphabet and vowel song and use our acquired knowledge to play "Crack the Code," a mystery detective game. Week 2: (January 27-31) Numbers 11-20 🔢 In our lesson this week, we will learn the numbers 11-20 (as well as review 1-10) in Spanish through the use of song and a number maze. Students will use the phrase ¿Cuánto cuesta? (How much does it cost?) to ask and state how much various items cost at the tienda de ropa (clothing store). Week 3: (February 3-7) Question Words ❓️ This week we will discuss question words in Spanish, such as who, what, when, where, why, and how (quién, qué, cuándo, dónde, por qué, cómo). After reading the interactive story, "La rana pirata" (The Pirate Frog), learners will use questions words to talk about the characters, setting, and plot. Finally, we will complete a question word search together. Week 4: (February 10-14) Personal Pronouns 🧑🧒🧒 This week we will focus on the personal pronouns I, you, he, she, we, they (yo, tú, usted, él, ella, nosotros, ellos, ellas, ustedes) in Spanish. We will cut and paste pronouns in a matching worksheet and decide in what situations students should use "tú" versus "usted." Week 5: (February 17-21) Physical Descriptions with Ser 👁 This week's lesson will center on physical descriptions using the verb "ser" (to be) in Spanish. We will look at eye and hair color, as well as describing words such as short, tall (bajo, alto) and young, old (joven, viejo). The phrase "Él/ella es ___" (He/she is ___) will be taught to describe appearances. Students will play the classic game of "Guess Who?" with a twist! Week 6: (February 24-28) Prepositions and Estar ➡️ In our lesson this week, we will learn about prepositions of place (to the right, to the left, on top, under, behind, in front, between, inside, outside), using the verb "estar" in Spanish. Students will interact with a video clip and play "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" by giving prepositional directions. Week 7: (March 3-7) Opposites 🥶🥵 This week we will focus on vocabulary related to opposites in Spanish (hot/cold, big/small, empty/full, sweet/sour, new/old etc). Students will do some hands-on learning with an opposites scavenger hunt, as well as a crossword puzzle. Week 8: (March 10-14) Storytelling with High Frequency Words 📖 This week's lesson will center on storytelling with high frequency words in Spanish. Learners will first be introduced to a few key words and then apply their knowledge as they read "The Tortoise and the Hare." This interactive story allows the students to help create the plot along the way, so buckle up....it might get silly! Week 9: (March 17-21) Sports ⚽️ In our last week's lesson, we will learn about common sports (baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, soccer, gymnastics, etc.) in Spanish, as well as the phrase, "Juego al ___" (I play ___).
