Unit 1Let’s be Astronomers: The Solar System & The Terrestrial PlanetsLet’s be Astronomers: The Solar System & The Terrestrial Planets4 lessons4 WeeksWeek 1Lesson 1Let’s be Astronomers: Intro to our Solar System & The SunIn our first lesson, we will explore our Space Neighborhood and discuss where we actually live in space. We will identify the various objects and regions in our Solar System, and determine where we are located within the Milky Way Galaxy. We will also discuss our closest star, the Sun, determining its importance in our Solar System, and learn about its gravity, size, and more.Week 2Lesson 2Let’s be Astronomers: Mercury & VenusIn this lesson, we will discuss the first two Terrestrial Planets and their individual characteristics, such as their distance from the Sun, what their surfaces consist of, their sizes, and much more. There will also be a fun, review game link listed to challenge yourself on all we have learned this week. *A review game link will also be given to students to challenge themselves with facts about our first 2 lessons.Week 3Lesson 3Let’s be Astronomers: EarthThis week we will dive into the lesser-known facts about our beautiful, blue world. We will learn our distance from the Sun, our atmosphere, structure, and much more in this fun, Earthly adventure!Week 4Lesson 4Let’s be Astronomers: Our Moon & MarsDuring this week's lesson, we will explore our nearest celestial object, the Moon, as we discover many little-known facts about our natural nightlight. We then travel out to the Red Planet, Mars, and see what all the focus is about and why humans are so interested to travel there. After this, we will compare and contrast the first four Terrestrial Planets, finding how they are similar and how they are unique as we play a fun, review game together as a class!Unit 2Let’s be Astronomers: The Solar System & The Jovian PlanetsLet’s be Astronomers: The Solar System & The Jovian Planets2 lessons2 WeeksWeek 5Lesson 5Let’s be Astronomers: Intro to the Jovian Planets & JupiterThis week we will fly past the Asteroid Belt to the Jovian Planets to explore the largest planets in our Solar System, the Jovian Planets! We will discover how these planets are all similar, and then we will begin visiting each planet to learn how they are also very unique. We will explore the largest planet in our Solar System, Jupiter, to find out more about its rings, moons, gravity, atmosphere, and much more!Week 6Lesson 6Let’s be Astronomers: Saturn, Uranus, & NeptuneThis lesson will wrap up the Jovian Planets as we uncover the Jewel of our Solar System, Saturn, with its amazing rings, moons, & stripes, and other features. Next, we push out towards Uranus & Neptune, the two Ice Giants, to discover their ring systems, moons, windy & stormy nature, distance from the Sun, and many more facts about these blue planets.Unit 3Let’s be Astronomers: Telescopes & ConstellationsLet’s be Astronomers: Telescopes & Constellations2 lessons2 WeeksWeek 7Lesson 7Let’s be Astronomers: Telescopes & How We Use ThemThis lesson we switch to discussing things here on Earth that allow us to observe and discover more in the Space around our planet, mainly, telescopes. We will learn about the different types of telescopes, ground-based and Observatories, like the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes. We will see how a telescope works, and look at their different parts. Then we will view some amazing pictures taken by the Hubble & James Webb!Week 8Lesson 8Let’s be Astronomers: Discovering the ConstellationsThis week's lesson focuses on Constellations, what they are, how many there are, how they were used historically, and how we can still use the constellations today. We will look at a variety of Star Charts and locate the 5 biggest constellations on them. Talk about a stellar time!Unit 4Let’s be Astronauts: Astronauts & Human Space ExplorationLet’s be Astronauts: Astronauts & Human Space Exploration1 lesson1 WeekWeek 9Lesson 9Let’s be Astronauts: How to become an Astronauts & Human Space ExplorationDuring this lesson, we will find out what it takes to become an astronaut, and how they train to live and work in space. We will discover the various places humans have traveled at this point, and where we might travel to next. This week's lessons will get your mind wheeling with the possibilities and the future of humans in Space!Unit 5Let’s be Astronauts: Types of Spacecraft & The ISSLet’s be Astronauts: Types of Spacecraft & The ISS3 lessons3 WeeksWeek 10Lesson 10Let’s be Astronauts: Types of SpacecraftFor this week's class, we will discuss the main types of man-made spacecraft, their missions, and where we have sent them. We will break down the two big categories of spacecraft, and then look at examples of each. We will also witness an atmospheric craft land on a moon millions of miles away! It is sure to be epic!Week 11Lesson 11Let’s be Astronauts: Touring the ISSDuring this last video lesson, we will go on a tour of the International Space Station (ISS), which gives amazing insight into what it is like to actually live and work on the ISS. This tour is one zero-gravity trip to remember!Week 12Lesson 12Space Mission-Project TimeFor our last class together, we will each take the class to a place inside our Solar System. This can be a Planet or Moon. Students will find at least 3 facts about their chosen place to discuss with the class & they will show a any physical item that represents their place in space). We will also discuss together what we might find at each of place. Talk about a great way to wrap up our Space Mission 1 class!
- This Space Adventure is crammed-packed with information and fun! Students will learn about the Solar System, and how to Compare & Contrast the planets in our Solar System; Discuss the Earth & Moon and how they are unique from other planets and moons; Explore telescopes, how & why we use them; Identify several main constellations; Learn about Astronauts and how they train; Categorize the main Types of Spacecraft sent into space by humans; Discuss where Astronauts might go in the future; & Examine different Objects Orbiting Earth, as well as other objects seen in Space.
I have always had a love of space, from the moment my grandpa, an amateur astronomer, let me look through the 10-foot telescope he built all by himself, to watching shuttles & satellites lift into the sky, and watching some fall back to the earth. I have spotted some of the largest dust storms to hit Mars, and have enjoyed looking at the various craters on our Moon and seeing the rings around Saturn, all from my own backyard in Missouri & while using telescopes, including the ones my grandpa & I built together! I have never ceased my exploration and search, looking to the skies to watch for eclipses, comets, and so much more! My love of all things Space has only increased with time, and I feel it is the next great wave of the future! As a teacher with three different degrees, including a Master’s Degree in Teaching, I have taken several science courses, including those dealing with Astronomy. I also have over 30 years of experience working with children of various ages, teaching a variety of topics, including Astronomy, Arts & Crafts, Music, Business, Computers and more! I love to share my knowledge with the next generation as I hope to instill the awe-inspiring beauty the Unknown Universe holds, as well as encourage students to dream and believe! I hope to see you in class as we take on this Amazing Space Mission!
