If ever the adage ‘show not tell’ was applicable, then it must be to a Halloween story. 
The emphasis on this class is to enjoy creating a story full of atmosphere and suspense. With a strict ‘no gore/ violence’ rule, learners will discover how much more satisfying and effective it is to create an air of mystery and, perhaps, even include humour for a successful spooky story.
Learners will explore how to plan out a story and use descriptive writing effectively, as well as technical aspects such as punctuation, sentence length and pacing to build tension. We will discuss how giving a reader hints, and a ‘taste’ of what’s happening is often far more effective than a direct ‘telling’ of an event.

Time permitting, we may share how to effectively read a spooky tale aloud for maximum impact!
