In this one-time class students will learn about what pilots do - besides fly the airplane. Here is how the class is broken up: Weather: We will talk about how pilots need to check the weather before their flight is scheduled to take off. We'll look at different pictures of weather and decide if we think the weather would be safe to fly in or not. Students will learn that it's normally safe for big airplanes to fly in almost any type of weather. We'll then do a little coloring of weather that is safe to fly in vs. weather that might not be safe to fly in. Flying: We'll move into looking at pictures of all the controls in the cockpit of the airplane and talk about what some of them do. We'll also talk about if, when, and how pilots get to sleep while flying. Games: We'll play a couple games, one being "Pilot Says" - like "Simon Says". During the other game I will spin an online wheel that will land on one of the letters of the alphabet. We will all try to come up with things on an airplane that start with that letter. Aviation Alphabet: The last thing we will learn about is the ICAO (International Civic Aviation Organization) Phonetic Alphabet. This is the alphabet that pilots, and anyone who communicates with them in the air, needs to know. We'll practice using this alphabet together by doing the worksheet "Mystery Messages". I try to keep my classes as interactive as possible by keeping students unmuted. Of course there may be times where I need to mute a student due to background noise or other factors. I might mute the whole class on occasion, as well. Students are encouraged to raise their hands if they would like to say something during class. #academic

Minnesota Certificado de Docencia en Educación elemental
Hello everyone! I am a former elementary teacher, teaching 5th grade for 2 years and 1st grade for five. I enjoy teaching children about reading and math through games, hands-on learning, and engaging activities. Airplanes, bracelet-making, and social clubs are some of the other topics I am passionate about teaching. Through my time in the classroom, I know that in order for kids to learn, they need to be engaged and having fun! This is why I bring games and activities to all of my classes, so that we can really enjoy our time together.
I still currently hold a K-6 Elementary Teaching License. I loved my time teaching in the classroom but just recently decided it was time for me to stay home with my own two children (ages 3 and 1.5). We are excited for all the adventures we are going to have together as a family, especially going to the zoo to see my favorite animal - giraffes!
