In this class, we will have fun discussing the different topics in the book, “You Got a Phone! (Now Read This Book)” by Elizabeth K Englander, Ph.D. and Katharine Covino, Ed.D. This book is an easy-to-read book that discusses major topics (in a fun way and with great illustrations) associated with having a phone. Even reluctant readers will get into this book. Each week (outside of class), students will read a chapter of the book and complete the assigned weekly challenge. In class, we will discuss the chapter and the weekly challenge that they completed. We will also do an activity together to help solidify the concepts of the chapter. Below is the schedule we will follow: Week 1: Chapter 1-Having a Phone is Totally Cool Week 2: Chapter 2-Drama-rama Week 3: Chapter 3-Cyberbullying Week 4: Chapter 4- Posting Pictures Online Week 5: Chapter 5-FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) Week 6: Chapter 6-Healthy Life Balance Week 7: Chapter 7-Doing Awesome Things Week 8: Wrap-up No work is required before the first day of class, so last minute sign-ups are welcome. Please make sure your student knows how to find and use the Mute/Unmute button. There are times when a student’s background is noisy. Their mic will be muted by the teacher so the class and the learning and thinking processes are not disrupted. Your student will then have to unmute their mic in order to talk. Zoom will not allow teachers to unmute mics anymore. *Each student must be registered for the class to attend; however, siblings/friends can share a screen to participate in the class. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Orientación para padres
When discussing things like texting drama, cyberbullying, etc., the recommendation the book gives, and I stress, is to always talk to parents and keep them informed as they are the best advocate for their student.
Parents are encouraged to be nearby in case there are any issues (i.e. technology, etc.) that need to be addressed. Unfortunately, I cannot address technical issues from my side.
