Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. Kindergarten - 2
In this ongoing class I have combined all of my Smoky Mountains grammar parts of speech classes. Students will learn with colorful, engaging slides I've created on Canva.

These classes are very interactive with lots of opportunities for learners to answer questions and practice the concepts we're working on. There are a few games and worksheets included in some of the classes, as well. I believe learning should be fun and interesting, and I do my best to get kids thinking while they're having a good time.

Since this is an ongoing class, students are free to come and go as needed. As one cycle of eight ends, I will repeat the classes over again, so if you missed a class during one cycle, you can catch it the next time around. Feel free to join at any time in the cycle since it makes little difference in what order you learn the parts of speech.

Ongoing classes are great for learners who prefer having class at the same time slot each week. This series is perfect for the advanced kindergartener, on-level first-grader, and the second-grader who needs a little review. See you in the Smokies!

Class Schedule:

Week One: What Is a Noun?
The nouns class covers all the different types of nouns, including abstract nouns. We also learn about plural and proper nouns and how to write each of them correctly. A scavenger hunt and Nouns Bingo are included for fun.

Week Two: What Is an Adjective?
The adjectives class covers descriptive adjectives along with comparative adjectives and articles. There is one guessing game to start out the class, and then students will practice using adjectives to describe what they see.

Week Three: What Is a Verb?
The verbs class cover action verbs, which includes getting students up and moving. We also learn about helping verbs and linking verbs and practice using those, as well.

Week Four: What is a Pronoun?
The pronouns class covers the use of personal, demonstrative, and indefinite pronouns, allowing each student to practice with each type. We will also learn the correct usage of "me" and "I" in a sentence when we are including ourselves with another person. This class includes a silly song with hand motions that my students really enjoy.

Week Five: What Is an Interjection?
The interjections class covers common interjections and how to use them appropriately to describe our emotions. Students learn how to correctly punctuate a sentence with an interjection, and we have time for a game of Bingo at the end.

Week Six: What Is an Adverb?
The adverbs class covers four questions that adverbs answer in sentences: how, when, where, how often. Students get a lot of practice choosing the correct adverbs for sentences and to describe different activities.

Week Seven: What Is a Preposition?
The prepositions class covers the information a preposition can give us: where, when, direction, or movement. We also learn about prepositional phrases and practice making them and searching for them in sentences.

Week Eight: What Is a Conjunction?
The conjunctions class covers the coordinating conjunctions using the FANBOYS acronym and the correct usage of correlative conjunctions. This is a fun class with a lot of pictures and practice choosing conjunctions based on the students' preferences.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will have a broad overview of the parts of speech and how they are used in sentences.

Licenciatura desde Texas A&M University
Howdy from East Tennessee! I’m Shelley Greaney, and I love teaching on Outschool. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University, majoring in journalism with a minor in English. I'm a mother of six, grandmother of five, and I home schooled all of my children for a total of 26 years. I began teaching online five years ago as an ESL teacher and then started nutrition and grammar classes on Outschool. I also taught as a volunteer for elementary-aged children for ten years.

As a true grammar nerd, I offer foundational grammar classes for grades one, two, and three. The Great Grammar Adventure, a 29-week ongoing class, covers over a semester’s worth of grammar topics with two writing units, as well. I'm always looking for ways to make grammar more interesting for students.

I also teach First Grade Curriculum for K-1st graders. This class meets three times per week and covers a variety of topics including phonics, math, language arts, telling time on an analog clock, reading a calendar, social skills, and so much more. Students enjoy a new theme every week, worksheets to reinforce what we learn in class, and Show & Tell at the end of every class.

I believe learning should always be engaging, fun, and practical, and I work very hard to make sure each student, regardless of level, feels successful in class. I incorporate fun-themed slides, open-ended questions, scaffolding, and discussion to keep kids interested and engaged in class. I believe in letting kids share and participate in class, while maintaining an organized learning atmosphere. Lots of smiles and laughter are welcome in my classroom every day. I hope to see your child in my zoom room sometime soon.
