Topics taught: phonemic awareness skills, short vowel sounds, successive blending, word families, letter sounds for 26 lowercase letters, phoneme segmentation, and other skills needed to decode CVC words.

Week of May 1: Phonemic awareness warmup, ABC Chant with keywords and motions, vowel Ferris wheel game (blending a consonant sound onto a short vowel sound), letter sound drill, CVC reading, share and goodbyes.
Week of May 8: Phonemic awareness warmup, ABC Chant with keywords and motions, Tap it Map it Zap it CVC game, Reading each other's CVC dictation homework, share and goodbyes.
Week of May 15: Phonemic awareness warmup, ABC Chant with keywords and motions, letter sound drill, intro to successive blending, blending in head and then aloud, share and goodbyes.
Week of May 22: Phonemic awareness warmup, ABC Chant with keywords and motions, vowel Ferris wheel game (blending a consonant sound onto a short vowel sound), successive blending practice, share and goodbyes.

Teaching Style: high expectations, high level or warmth and support ONLY as needed. 

Interaction: we will play many CVC games, I will have a kid-friendly slideshow, lots of cooperation within the small group, and video clips as needed to encourage engagement. 

Required pre-knowledge: PLEASE only take this class if your student knows at least 80% of the most common sound for each of the 26 letters. The group will be VERY targeted toward the skill and it is important that all students are similar in current knowledge.
