Students will hear stories from Slavic folklore featuring Baba Yaga. We will discuss whether or not she is helpful or harmful (depends on who you are and what mood you may find her in.) We will talk about where she lives, how she travels, who her associates are, and more. I will open the class by asking students whether or not they have ever heard of Baba Yaga. If anyone has heard of her and would like to share what they know, they will be given an opportunity to do so at this time. After this, I will give a brief overview of Baba Yaga. Then, I will read stories and share slides about Baba Yaga. I will also show students a couple of prints of Baba Yaga and several books featuring Baba Yaga from my collection. No prior knowledge is necessary for this class.

In folklore stories, Baba Yaga has been known to cook and eat children and this will be discussed in the class.

I have taught and currently teach folklore, mythology, literature, poetry, and history classes. In these classes, we sometimes deal with violent concepts or imagery.
