Experiencia de clase

This club will offer the opportunity for students to engage in a relaxed environment where they can continue to learn and develop their conversational skills in American Sign Language (ASL). In the first week, we will focus on introductions, learning about each student in the class, and creating a vision of what everyone is interested in learning to communicate through ASL. In the following weeks, we will continue to get to know each other while expanding our ASL conversation through weekly themes. The students will learn themed sign vocabulary, sentences, and questions as they grow and develop their conversation skills.

The lesson will be taught using teacher modeling and active student practice with guidance/correction from the teacher. We will conclude with an interactive group activity (Bingo, Guess Who/Guess What, Kahoot, etc).

PLEASE REMEMBER: Due to the nature of American Sign Language, cameras must remain on. This is a visual language and the teacher needs to be able to see the student sign production to give praise and know if corrections are needed.

**Please note: While this is an introductory club, basic knowledge of American Sign Language is needed, at the very least knowledge of the alphabet and numbers.**

This on-going course will be based on topics chosen by the students. To get the conversation and learning started, the following will be the initial weekly themes. Students will then begin to help guide the direction of the weekly ASL conversation based on themes, ideas, topics, etc. their section is interested in learning and developing. The following is the first weeks theme, as well as some additional theme ideas for January:
Week One - Introductions and get to know game (Have you ever?, Would you rather?, etc.)/Discussion of upcoming weekly themes
January Theme Ideas (will be discussed/voted on in the first two weeks of class) - New Years resolutions/goals/hopes/plans; Favorite gift/toy/food/memory/thing that happened from the holidays; Seasons: Do you like winter/spring/summer/fall? & What do you like best about your preferred season?

The weekly class will be structured as follows:
5 minutes - Welcome and introductions
5-10 minutes - Weekly check-in (highs, lows, successes, struggles, questions, etc)
15-20 minutes - Weekly theme signs, sentences, and practice
10-15 minutes - Game or activity of the week
5- minutes - Closings, questions, topic suggestions for upcoming weeks
