UU. 2
During this class, students will study a small group of sight words. Sight words are sometimes referred to as red words, high frequency words, or popcorn words. These words do not follow typical English spelling patterns, and learners must memorize these words. This class will help students with reading, writing, and spelling these words. Students will also develop sentences for these words. This skill will improve both language and writing skills for students. During the class, students will use multi-sensory techniques to practice spelling words. Students will create sentences for each word. They will be encouraged to write their sentences and share them with their classmate. This class, slightly more advanced than the K and 1st grade version, will inspire students to start writing short stories using their sight words instead of independent sentences. This class is fine for students still developing writing skills. This class is ideal for second grade students, but older and younger children will be admitted when appropriate.

Nueva York Certificado de Docencia en Estudios Sociales/Historia
Maestría en Educación desde Columbia University Teachers College
Hi, I specialize in teaching reading. It is my passion to introduce students to books and develop a love for reading in kids of all ages. I have a masters degree in education from Columbia University's Teachers College and a special education certificate in special education from Brooklyn College in New York City. I have worked as a peer tutor, as a test prep tutor, and as an Orton-Gillingham tutor, helping students overcome various reading difficulties to achieve their goals. I also worked as a reading teacher and a special education teacher at a title 1 charter school in NYC. I believe that every child has the potential to become an avid reader, we just have to ignite their passion and build their skills in an individualized way. I recently moved from NYC to live near the ocean. My hobbies include going to the beach, traveling, playing tennis, and or course READING!
