Experiencia de clase

In this beginner class about sharks (elasmobranchs), we will learn all about the adaptations and biological features of different species of these cartilaginous fish! Sharks are by far the most misunderstood animal in the ocean. They are know for their large teeth and offensive movements underwater. However, almost all shark species pose no threat to humans, whatsoever!

In class, learners will have the opportunity to dive into the science of elasmobranch biology and how sharks and rays live their everyday lives. This class will focus on the biological aspects of how each animal's body is made up. What adaptation does a shark have? How do sharks differ from bony fish? What do sharks eat? Are they dangerous? There is so much to learn about these animals! We will learn new vocabulary words and determine exactly how to characterize a shark.

There are around 440 species of shark that are known to scientists, today. About one quarter of these species are endangered. In class, we will discuss how we can all aid in the conservation of these species. We will also discuss how we can improve the negative human viewpoint on sharks.

There is no outside work required for this class. Learners should come to class ready to learn all about the biology and conservation of elasmobranch species. Students are encouraged to join in discussions, however, it is not mandatory. Students are more than welcome to sit back and listen if they prefer.

I look forward to seeing you in the classroom!
